Enamel Jewelry Making
Enameling is the process of using heat to fuse glass to metal. In this class, we will be exploring ways to manipulate metal and decorate it with glass powders and beads to make jewelry!
Flinging Around
Come join in the dance of the Scottish Highlands. We'll begin with the basic steps and move on to the Highland Fling and Sword Dance. The history surrounding the steps and dances will also be explored. Come fling around with me!
Let's Zentangle!
Do you like to doodle? Do you find drawing relaxing? Come try the art of Zentangle... there are no mistakes, only beautiful artwork!
LARP (Live Action Role-Playing)
Step into a world of imagination, strategy, and adventure! In this class, students create characters, write stories, and act out thrilling scenarios in a collaborative and safe environment. Emphasis is placed on creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving through immersive role-play.
Advanced LEGO Creativity Lab
Build, design, and engineer using LEGO! Students explore architecture, storytelling, and basic engineering principles while creating original structures and group projects. This class encourages imagination, collaboration, and hands-on learning through play.
Global Arts
Make Mandalas, Turkish Lamps, and Mosaics.
Musical
This is a two period class. We will be putting on an adapted version of Cinderella. Singing, Acting, and Dancing will all be part of this wonderful, musical experience.
Hip Hop Dance
Move, groove, and learn some cool hip hop choreography.
Bollywood Dance
Bollywood dance comes from India and is inspired by the colorful movies made in India. It mixes many fun styles like classical Indian dance, hip-hop, jazz, and even a little bit of drama- just like our Indian movies. During these classes, you won’t just learn dance steps — you’ll learn how to perform. Bollywood is all about big expressions, powerful energy, teamwork, and telling a story with your face and body. As someone who grew up in India, I’m excited to bring this vibrant part of my culture to the SFOA and share it with you. Whether you’re a trained dancer or just love to move, this is your chance to try something new, make friends, and light up the stage. No experience needed — just bring your energy and your best smile.
Body Art
An opportunity for artistic expression using the body as the instrument and the canvas. In this class we will use skin safe materials including (but not limited to) henna, body paint, and make-up. We will also explore transformation of the body through illusions such as prosthetics.
Rise and Stitch!
Come start the day using needle and thread! In this class artists will learn a handful of simple but fun looking embroidery stitches. Artists will then use these techniques and floss from every color of the rainbow to apply preprinted or individually designed patterns to their own tote bags.
Let's Make a Movie
Taught by Mike Pearlman, Professional Film maker, this class is for rising 7th & 8th graders only. It is a two-period class and will take place during the first two periods of the day.
Art Journaling
Combining elements of collage, painting, drawing, and much more, we will jump into the creative process of art journaling to express our ideas, thoughts, and feelings as we transform old books into new art!
STOMP!
Learn new skills or hone your percussion skills in this fun and engaging class. Drums and other percussion instruments, as well as everyday items, will be used to play unique rhythms.
Design NEW SFOA Banners
We will create new banners for SFOA to proudly display at all of our events, as well as design cool new SFOA merch to help spread our love of the arts!
Watercolor Painting
Learn the basics, or expand your skills in this wonderful, watercolor class.
Musical Theater Dance
Multiple dance styles will be learned and explored. Young artists will choose their favorite style as a class to learn in a choreographed dance piece.
In to the Unknown Improv
Interactive games, on the spot acting creating characters and scenes. Laughter will be involved.
Costume Design Central
Lead NYC Ballet Costume Designer, Marc Happel will show costumes, talk about the creative process, and encourage you to design your own costume piece while teaching you tips and tricks from the costume world! The runway will be ready during the finale to wear and show your designs.
Prop Making for Theater
Imaginative fun! Design and create the props and set to be used in our musical, Cinderella.
World Building
From dragon-slaying Sagas to space Odysseys, World Building is the first step in the creation of any story. It’s coming up with a setting, characters that live there, and the type of stories that might be told about them. This class will teach all the necessary skills to create your very own world (and how to map it so you can bring it home at the end!!).
Creative Writing
If there's a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it." We may not be able to write a novel in three weeks, but we can tell a story. In our three-week creative writing class, young artists will get an overarching education in writing. From character design to actually coming up with a plot, our writers get a chance to reach into the depths of their creativity to create the story they’ve always wanted to read. No writing experience or knowledge is required; all our artists need is creativity and to find joy in creation.
